The collection consists of the papers of Dean S. Yarbrough from 1925-1945. The papers include correspondence; financial records, memos and reports created when Yarbrough served as the director of the American Red Cross Overseas Service club in Italy in 1944-1945; and a small amount of printed material from the West Federal Street Branch Y in Youngstown, Ohio. The correspondence, dating from 1925-1945, mostly concerns his work in various organizations and commissions, including the Urban League, the YWCA, the YMCA, the New York Department of Public Welfare, and the American Red Cross. There is some correspondence from University of Pittsburgh and M.C. Elmer, his PhD advisor, concerning Yarborough's dissertation and graduation from the university. The remainder of the correspondence includes letters from family members, responses to Yarborough's job applications from the United States Department of Labor and Lincoln University, and other miscellaneous items. The records from the Red Cross detail Yarborough's work as a club director for both the Cattolica Club and Lucera Club in Italy during World War II. The clubs provided meals, entertainment, and overnight accommodations for United States soldiers serving overseas. The collection contains budget reports, personnel lists, a supply inventory, payroll lists and a program from the two clubs headed by Yarbrough in 1944-1945. The Yarbrough papers do not contain any material related to Yarbrough's teaching career and do not document his work at Wilberforce University.
